A timely and inspirational personal story about a woman looking for herself as she finds her way to success. For those interested in what life in the South was like for a poor woman, this is an enlightening book. Anece McCloud comes to terms with her early experience and moves her way to becoming an Associate Dean in an elite Southern University. Her successes in academia are impressive and should be encouraging to people trying to overcome the limitations of poverty in a racist society.

I enjoyed and toke pride, knowing that someone thought enough of oneself. To retrace her life and share the ups and downs that she went through. Accomplishinng many recognitions/achievements, not only for herself. But for others, through guidist and a variety of programs that she created. For students that wanted a great start through college and at life.

Anece McCloud took me on an inspirational journey. Her memoir was rich with the history of colorism in the 20th Century South. She took me on a journey through her personal plight to overcome and rise out of its ashes. The book shone a light on the difficulties that existed and still exist for educated African Woman women.
