The Fountains at La Cholla

Meet The Author: Anece McCloud

Anece has lived at The Fountains at La Cholla for just shy of two years, and yesterday we were fortunate to have her share a monumental life accomplishment with us.
Several months ago, Anece received newly printed copies of her memoir, “Seeking Personal Validation: The Life and Times of an African American Academic.” To celebrate this remarkable milestone, The Fountains hosted a meet and greet event to shine the spotlight on such an amazing individual.
During the event, she shared details about her book as well as many unique experiences throughout her life. There was standing room only while Anece guided us through her life growing up in the South. She spoke about when she was as a domestic worker with a family in Atlantic City, New Jersey, caring for the family’s small children. Much to our delight, one of the children was able to attend the event and visit with Anece as the two recalled happy memories treasured from their past.
Anece went to a prestigious four-year university where she met and later married Major Verable McCloud. As an officer’s wife, Anece traveled to England where the McClouds lived for several years. Upon returning to the states, Anece was instrumental in providing enrollment opportunities to minority students at Nebraska University. Her success in these efforts caught the eye of the Department of Admissions at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, where she was recruited as the Associate Dean of Students. Following their retirement, the McClouds relocated to Tucson.
After Anece conducted a question and answer session with the audience, there was a formal reception and book signing. The Fountains at La Cholla is honored to have such a talented author with bountiful knowledge and rich life experiences as a member of our community. Congratulations, Anece!
